Workshop Grievance Procedure

The Center for Ethical Practice is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association (APA)  Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics, and the American Counselors Association (ACA) Code of Ethics.

The Center for Ethical Practice will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants.  The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Executive Director in cooperation with the Managing Director.

While The Center for Ethical Practice goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment of all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the staff and the Executive Director of The Center for Ethical Practice.  The following procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances:

When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the complainant will be given a copy of this grievance procedure, and the following actions will be taken.

If the grievance concerns Center services generally — a workshop offering, its content or level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered; home study content or process; or online courses content or process — the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format and submit them to The Center for Ethical Practice at the above address.  The grievance will be reviewed by the Executive Director and the Social Worker consultant, who will mediate and will be the final arbitrators.

If the grievance concerns a Center administrator, the problem should be referred to the Executive Director, who will review it and respond as appropriate.  If the grievance concerns the Executive Director, as presenter or administrator, the Social Worker Consultant will participate in reviewing the grievance and responding to it as appropriate.

If the grievance concerns a presenter other than the Executive Director, regarding the content presented by the speaker or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format and submit them to The Center for Ethical Practice at the above address.  The Executive Director and Social Worker consultant will review the grievance, will convey the comment(s) to the speaker, and will respond to the grievance as appropriate.

In any of these situations, if the participant requests action, the Executive Director will provide a partial refund of the workshop fee or provide a credit for a subsequent workshop, or will provide a partial refund of the home study or online course.
